S&P Dow Jones Indices Launch Three Cryptocurrency Indices For Bitcoin And Ether

S&P Dow Jones Indices launched its very first cryptocurrency indices on Monday. All three cryptoindexes have tickers SPBTC for Bitcoin, SPETH for Ether, and SPCMC for a combination of two cryptoassets.

All three indices will use data from partner company Lukka. It was in December 2020 when it was first announced that a division of financial data provider S&P Global Inc would launch cryptocurrency indices this year. At the time, it was noted that data would be provided for over 550 of the most traded cryptocurrencies.

These crypto indices from S&P will compete with existing indices from Bloomberg and Galaxy and further standardize crypto asset data on Wall Street.

“Now that Bitcoin is the S&P index, asset managers cannot ignore the elephant in the room,” said Charles Edwards, founder of Capriole Investments.

The price of the respective cryptoassets will not be presented in dollars, but in points. The score in points for Bitcoin is 7678, for Ethereum – 29405 and 5895 for MegaCap.

Instead of the actual price, each index measures the rise in prices.
