Spinoffs Yakuza Judgment and Lost Judgment appeared on Steam

It’s a surprise. Sega has released spinoffs of the Yakuza Judgment and Lost Judgment series on Steam. The first first appeared on the PlayStation 4 in 2018, and only last year appeared on the current generation consoles and Stadia. In Judgment, you play as Takayuki Yagami, a private detective investigating a serial murder case in a fictional part of Tokyo based on the city’s Kabukichō district. The game’s 2021 sequel, Lost Judgment, takes place three years later and features a darker tone and new gameplay elements.

It seemed like the likelihood of the Judgment franchise ever coming to PC was negligible until this week. A report published last year by Japanese publication Nikkan Taishu said the series is unlikely to continue due to a dispute between Sega and a talent agency representing Takuya Kimura, an actor who lent his likeness and voice to the protagonist. Kimura’s agency was reportedly opposed to releasing the PC, fearing it would hurt his business model. It seemed like the two sides were so far apart that it was unlikely that Sega would release another Judgment game.

It looks like things have changed now. You can now buy Judgment and Lost Judgment on Steam separately or as part of a bundle that includes the Kaito Files extension for the sequel. Good!
