Paramount is aiming to make Star Trek Day a major event in the sci-fi fans’ annual calendar with an impressive array of promising announcements, revelations, interviews and possibly a new teaser or trailer.
The fifth oldest surviving film studio in the world continues to emulate what other studios do and clung to the ability to unobtrusively link dates throughout the year like Star Wars Day May 4th, Disney D23, First Contact Day and even April. 26 (refers to “Alien”). This is in addition to the annual Star Wars celebration, Disney Plus Day, and all conventions around the country, including SDCC and NYCC. Just last week, the annual Star Trek event took place in Las Vegas, so we’re certainly spoiled for choice, and may it go on.
This particular event, Star Trek Day, takes place on September 8th (or thereabouts), as it was on that day in 1966 that the very first episode of The Original Series, titled “The Man Trap”, aired. Last year was especially special as it was the 55th anniversary and it coincided with an impressive exhibition held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. This year’s event is also being held at Skirball, and why not, it’s a beautiful place in the Santa Monica Mountains. More importantly, everything will be available to watch online.
