Beware of Jean-Luc, the first trailer of the second season of the series “Star Trek: Picardhas landed and it looks like a familiar foe is returning.
Picard star Patrick Stewart unveiled a first look at the second season of Star Trek: Picard today (April 5) in the first in a series of virtual global dashboards from Paramount + to celebrate the “Day of First Contact with the Star Trek.” It’s safe to say we’re excited.
Actor John de Lancy made a surprise appearance during the panel, confirming that he will appear in the second season as his iconic Star Trek character, Kew.

It was also announced that the second season of “Picard” will premiere in 2022, although a more specific date has not been announced and, unfortunately, has not been calculated by episode.
The trailer is short but informative. There’s a setting shot of Château Picard and the winery (shot at the Sunstone Villa and Vineyard in Santa Ynez, California) and the voice of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) as we carefully fly over the vines facing the façade.
“The real final frontier is time,” he says. We move on to the interior frame and see a familiar mix of old styles with new ones. “Time can turn even the most impulsive, even the most thoughtless actions into history.”
We’re focusing on the oil painting of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D hanging above the fireplace, and curiously there is a Voyager communication badge that is relevant, perhaps because this was the last time Q appeared on Star Trek. in episode “Q2” (S07, E19).
We see a copy of The Long Dark Tunnel by Tracy Tormé, which features the fictional detective Dixon Hill and is referenced in The Next Generation, The Great Goodbye (S01, E12) and The Emissary (S02, E20). ) on the table along with a replica of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, before focusing on the beautifully detailed polished bronze USS Stargazer.
“What we do during a crisis often puts less pressure on us than what we would like to do, what could have been.”
We continue to navigate the room above the simple wooden hourglass before finally settling on an antique 19th century checkerboard with a deck of cards – a theme also used at the start of Picard’s first season.
“Time offers so many opportunities, but it never gives a second chance.”
At this point, the only card on the table, the Queen of Hearts, begins to disintegrate until only Q is left … and we hear the unmistakable voice of John de Lance saying, “The trail never ends.”
Returning cast members confirmed by Paramount + include Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Brady Eagle … and Brent Spiner.
