The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was first teased with a short trailer back in 2021, but it’s reportedly now in development indefinitely. The news came via Bloomberg, which, citing unnamed sources close to its development, said the project had been put on hold.
The problems are reportedly arising from the dismissal of major employees of the developer Aspyr Media. Both the art director and the design director were unexpectedly fired from the company. We know that the recent vertical demo of the game was well received by the license holders. However, later communications to the rest of the development team indicated that the project was not what studio management wanted it to be. It is a pity that we do not have more detailed information.
Aspyr developers are now looking at 2025 as a realistic release date.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a milestone in the successful and original video game storytelling of the Star Wars franchise, and has been unmatched ever since. Longtime fans have been eagerly awaiting the remake, but now its future seems hazy. We can only hope that everything works out with this game and we have a great game.
