Steam Deck Supports Easy Anti Cheat Software

Gamers are looking forward to getting their hands on Valve’s very first Steam Deck handheld consoles, which go on sale next month and will be available for purchase starting February 25, 2022. It will be nice to know that this week Valve confirmed that the portable handheld console will support Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) Software. Allow games from developers using anti-cheat software to be played on the Steam deck.

Valve said adopting EAC-enabled games is “an easy process” and developers won’t need to update their SDK version or make any other time-consuming changes. Valve previously added support for BattlEye anti-cheat technology through the Proton Compatibility Layer for Linux.

Developers wishing to use Epic’s BattlEye or Easy Anti-Cheat software can find more details on implementing it and enabling Proton support on Valve’s website: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/steamdeck/proton.

Steam Deck anti-cheat software support

“Our team has been working with Epic to support Easy Anti-Cheat + Proton over the past few months, and we are pleased to announce that adding Steam Deck support to your existing EAC games is now a simple process and does not require updating game binaries, SDK versions, or EOS integration. Along with our BattlEye updates from last year, this means two of the biggest anti-cheat services are now easily supported on Proton and Steam Deck.”

“In this regard, we are going to start sending Deck Verified test data for tested games that use anti-cheat middleware on Monday, January 24th. As with all other Deck Verified reviews, once your test data is submitted, you will receive an email notification and access to detailed Deck Verified data on your game’s landing page. Once this happens, you will have one week to publish the test data as is or submit a new build for review, after which the data will be published automatically.”

“For partners who can complete the EAC/BattlEye steps, this is great! As soon as your game is updated, submit it for review and we will update the compatibility data. Any games tested that do not have EAC/BattlEye for Proton enabled will be temporarily rated “Unsupported” until they are enabled.”
