Super Mario Party adds an online mode

Released in October 2018, Super Mario Party had omitted an online mode to the chagrin of fans of the series.

For Nintendo, better late than never: the most recent update (1.1.0) of the game rectifies this situation.

The following modes are now available online on Switch:

  • Mario party
  • Partner Party
  • Free Play

Please note that in order to access the online features of Super Mario Party, a Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscription is required.

The two ways to play online are: with friends or partly private using a password. Here are the possible combinations:

  • Up to one player per console (2-4 player game)
  • Up to two players per console (3-4 player game)

If two players are playing on their own Switch consoles, they cannot play with two other players and a third console.

When you play Super Mario Party online, everything is unlocked by switching from 20 characters to different gameboards, no matter how far you single-player progresses.

Online, 70 of the total of 80 mini-games are available. Here is the list of mini-games that escape the online mode:

  • Strike It Rich
  • Time to Shine
  • Take a Stab
  • All-Star Swingers
  • Rhythm and Bruise
  • Pep Rally
  • Wiped Out
  • Fiddler on the Hoof
  • Clearing the Table
  • Baton and On

Finally, be aware that game data is not saved with online mode.
