Tesla: From Wi-Fi to Superchargers, a reality in the US thanks to Starlink

Tesla just announced that Starlink terminals will be deployed on the Supercharger to offer Wi-Fi connectivity to drivers.

Elon Musk intends to take advantage of his various companies to offer the best experience for his Tesla drivers. Indeed, a new collaboration has just begun with Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service. In particular, antennas will be deployed on the new Superchargers to provide Wi-Fi at the charging stations of the American electric vehicle manufacturer.

Blowers with built-in Wi-Fi

A Reddit user just shared some very interesting information for Tesla drivers: the availability of Superchargers equipped with Starlink terminals in the US.

Thus, this new information provides additional comfort for Tesla drivers when charging their electric vehicle. Since charging takes several tens of minutes, they usually stay in the car to use the Tesla infotainment system. However, the cost is €9.99 per month to take advantage of premium connectivity.

Digital convenience for customers

With the advent of Starlink terminals, drivers will have free access to the Wi-Fi network. In addition to entertainment, this novelty will allow drivers to download on-board software updates and even maps. Note that the driver who reported this new feature introduced at Tesla charging stations indicates that Wi-Fi connection is instantaneous when the vehicle is connected to the charger.

Starlink is a satellite internet service offered by SpaceX, whose CEO is Elon Musk. In France, you can buy an antenna for a modest amount of 634 euros, and a subscription for 99 euros per month. The use of these Tesla terminals should eventually make it possible to forego the normal internet connection required for the Supercharger. It is not yet known whether this novelty will appear in other regions of the world.
