Tesla: Superchargers will soon be equipped with Starlink WiFi

Elon Musk innovates again by having two of his companies work together. Tesla has begun equipping its Superchargers charging stations, which can be recharged in less than 45 minutes, with Starlink antennas, SpaceX’s satellite internet offering.

Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite Internet offering, has unveiled a new rectangular antenna. Elon Musk’s company has begun testing Tesla Superchargers, another multi-billion dollar company. The goal: to make charging station users wait by offering them WiFi to help them have a good time, taking advantage of applications such as YouTube or Netflix, integrated into the Tesla infotainment system. How? ‘Or what? Installing the so-called Starlink WiFi in Superchargers charging stations.

Elon Musk responded on Twitter that the Superchargers will be equipped with WiFi.

WiFi to keep users waiting

The specialized medium Electrek revealed photographs of Tesla Superchargers equipped with the famous Starlink antennas in Lake City, Florida. Elon Musk later confirmed the information on Twitter. Tesla’s boss had promised in mid-October that WiFi connectivity would be available at all fast-charging stations in the United States (an offer rolled out in France soon) via SpaceX’s satellite internet to, in particular, improve “the charging experience “in Superchargers. These stations are designed to rapidly charge between 15 and 45 minutes depending on the model and generation of the Supercharger. But, even if the loading time is relatively fast, users will have to wait, which is why Tesla came up with the idea to offer WiFI.

Starlink continues to grow

Starlink, owned by businessman Elon Musk, is run by his aerospace company SpaceX. The project aims to offer a very high speed offer worldwide (up to 300 Mb / s in download currently, for 100 euros per month and 500 euros of equipment) using a network of thousands of satellites. The billionaire said he wanted to attract more than 500,000 users over the next twelve months. As of June 2021, Starlink had only 69,420 active users, a number that has not increased much due to the semiconductor crisis.
