A trusted Thales cloud and Google Cloud

Thales and Google Cloud France will launch a sovereign cloud offering, which will be based on Google Cloud, with the highest security requirements. As a reminder, the trusted cloud tag offers a double level of security, legal and technical, and is based on the SecNumCloud visa, issued by Anssi. To date, only three offers have this visa: they are offered by OVH, 3DS Outscale and Oodrive.

Google Cloud specifies that “there will be no difference in power and performance” between the public cloud and the trusted cloud. The objective of this alliance is to offer the maximum of Google Cloud services to French customers seeking better protection of their data. However, the timetable remains to be specified, as the procedure can take several months. Therefore, the service will not be available before the end of 2022.

Massive data breach on Twitch

The Twitch platform is facing a major data breach: An anonymous internet user posted a link to a torrent file containing 128GB of data that he claims to have stolen from the company’s internal git directories.

According to the author of the post, the data breach contains the source code for the various streaming applications developed by Twitch, various internal tools such as the SDK, internal projects, and tools from the Twitch security team. The published data also contains information on the payments received by some of the platform’s most prominent streamers on their channels since 2019.

Decathlon launches into online sports tourism

Decathlon is launching a full service marketplace dedicated to sports travel, called Decathlon Travel. The concept is to offer “tailor-made” sports trips. The client locates a trip on the site and then requests a quote on the desired dates. Decathlon Travel Consultants and Marketplace Partners handle these requests to create a personalized stay.

Decathlon Travel has a network of tourism service providers specialized in a destination and a sport. Among the partner travel agencies, we already find Altaï, Dune, Loire à Vélo, ION club and Intrepid. But the selection of offers should continue to grow over time.

The key figure: 55% of business PCs can’t install Windows 11

According to a survey by Lansweeper, 55% of workstations will not be able to upgrade to Windows 11 because the minimum hardware requirements required by Microsoft are too strict.

In fact, much of the pre-2018 material does not meet these prerequisites. As a reminder, the PC must have at least 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage; UEFI Secure Boot must be enabled; graphics card must support DirectX 12 or later, with a WDDM 2.0 driver; and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 must be included. Another problem is that these requirements also apply to virtual machines (VMs), and TPM 2.0 support for VMs is not widespread.

Hands-on: the best data migration tools

When you need to move data from one computer to another or from client to server, you need tools that can reliably move your files and verify that the move went smoothly. Here are our three favorite shows to do it safely:

  • GoodSync It works on a wide range of platforms, offers a single license for all platforms, and has a limited free version. Please note that there is a charge to support multiple devices and users report license issues with the lifetime license.
  • Acronis True Image features a clean interface and includes anti-malware support and a real-time imaging option. However, there is no native version of Linux and some users report that they have difficulty creating bootable media.
  • FileZilla It is free and cross-platform, and it supports plugins for cloud services. However, its interface is outdated and not compatible with SCP.

Editorial focus: 5G

The promise of 5G is the explosion of the speeds of our smartphones and the metamorphosis of French companies in the era of Industry 4.0. But he faces many naysayers. For his environmental bill, first: he is accused of participating in the increase in the consumption of data, and therefore of electricity.

Then due to a potential health hazard, due to the explosion of electromagnetic waves that it could generate. On this point, the independent administrative authorities are, however, unanimous: 5G has no effect on our health. At least for the moment.
