The Academy of Medicine recommends not vaccinating all children

In a statement released on Monday, November 15, the National Academy of Medicine said that not all children between the ages of 5 and 11 should be affected by the Covid-19 vaccination, but only some of them in good cases.

On the table in France for several months, the issue of vaccinating young people between the ages of 5 and 11 has never ceased to fuel controversy. However, some countries such as the United States or Israel have already taken the step in recent days.

In this context, the advisory opinion of the French Academy of Medicine was eagerly awaited to find out whether vaccination against the coronavirus should be extended to the very young.

For example, only those with weaknesses or who are in direct contact with adults with comorbidities should receive a vaccine.

“The National Academy of Medicine recommends extending immunization against (the) Covid-19 through the vaccine (from Pfizer / BioNTech) to children at risk of severe forms due to comorbidities, regardless of their age, as well as’ other children who they live in their family and school environment, ‘the Academy explained in its press release.

“Children living in the environment of vulnerable adults, in particular the immunosuppressed and people with chronic diseases” were also subject to this directive, which is explained in the document.

Do not compensate for the rejection of the vaccine by adults.

If the results of the vaccines provided by Moderna and Pfizer in children ages 5 to 11 at the end of September seemed conclusive, the panel based on 1,000 young people was not representative enough to draw definitive conclusions.

Little affected by the severe forms of Covid-19, this age group should not be used to achieve herd immunity in France, according to the instance. In his document, he established an ethical principle that indicates that young people under the age of 11 should not be used to compensate for the rejection of the vaccine by 7 million French adults.

Beyond the indicated reservations, the National Academy of Medicine has issued recommendations to limit the transmission of the virus in schools: the maintenance of barrier gestures, frequent ventilation of the facilities and the regular use of screening tests.
