Sony’s 5th generation console is slowly approaching the two-year mark since release. And people keep buying it up since the Playstation 5 is still very hard to come by.
But what is a console worth without games? What are these games that justify buying a Playstation 5 for $650 plus taxes?
We’ve compiled a list of the best Playstation 5 games to help you decide if you should start playing on the new console.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
I’m surprised this game from Insomniac Games (Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sunset Overdrive) hasn’t been talked about anymore.
This is the 9th game in the Ratchet & Clank series, but if you haven’t played the entire series (like me), it’s okay; just understand that Ratchet, the lombax, and Clank, the robot, are adventurers hailed as heroes for saving the galaxy from the villainous Doctor Nefarious on numerous occasions.
If I love platformers, I’ve never really clung to the series. But Rift Apart has changed that. One of Sony’s first rogues truly exclusive to the Playstation 5 (read: no PS4 version), Rift Apart is a huge visual slap in the face.
Our characters move at breakneck speed, with zero load times, between dimensions full of creativity.
And Ratchet & Clank isn’t just a visual spectacle; platforming mechanics are polished to a shine, and the story is surprisingly touching and thoughtful.
In short, an exclusivity that is truly worth a visit.

Okay, I won’t lie to you: I haven’t played Demon’s Souls, or at least the Playstation 5 version.
I rather played it at the time on PS3 when a friend who sensed the madness to come lent me his copy. And after a few hours of playing, I realized that I was a big kid who goes crazy when the game trolls him.
But I seem to be outnumbered as FromSoftware’s Souls series has taken the gaming world by storm, from Dark Souls to Elden Ring to Bloodborne, not to mention hundreds of games inspired by the series.
And it was Demon’s Souls that launched the game. But this is also a game released in 2009 on the Playstation 3 console, which the developers still poorly understood.
Therefore, the PS5 remake is not so much. Fast loading times, great graphics – everything that players who have the courage to return to the roots of Dark Souls need.
I’m just not one of them.

Horizon: Forbidden West
At the time of this writing, I’m completing my game in Forbidden West (so no spoilers!) and even after 50 hours of play I’m still doing every little quest I find because I can’t wait for my adventure to end.
Yes, if you played the first part of the series, Zero Dawn, the second part is the same recipe. But when the base game is this good, it’s hard to complain about it.
In Forbidden West, you once again play as Ala as she travels west to what was once Las Vegas in an attempt to stop an impending environmental disaster. Along the way, she learns more about the origins of the world she lives in and her own origins.
Forbidden West is one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played, an absolutely stunning visual experience. Faces reach such a degree of realism that sometimes you catch yourself thinking that you are watching a movie.
And behind it all is a gameplay so addictive that I often spend hours crouching in the tall grass hunting down the robot beasts that populate the world for no real reason, just because it’s fun.

Tales of rebellion
The Tales of series is a series of Japanese RPGs that dates back to the 90s and has gained a lot of fans over the years due to its action/RPG mixing system, but never reached the heights of Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
But Tales of Arise is perhaps the most complete episode of the series. The developers have taken a big break since the previous installment, Tales of Berseria, and it shows. Visually, no other game in the series received so much attention.
Both the storyline and the gameplay are top notch. Avid role-playing game fans as well as action lovers will find what they are looking for in this game that offers around forty hours of gameplay.

You can’t complain that they always want you to spend money; Astro’s Playroom is a free game available for all Playstation 5 consoles.
The Playstation 5 controller, the Dualsense, has a lot of special features: haptic feedback, actuation resistance, motion detection… and the Astro playroom is used to demonstrate this.
But this isn’t just a tech demo; Astro’s Playroom is a real platformer full of references to the history of the Playstation and its games.
One of the best platformers of recent years (which is no trifle for a free game), you can go crazy without it.
Well, we couldn’t help but talk about it, yeah.
Elden Ring is the video game phenomenon of the year, with over 17 million copies sold since its release in the spring of 2022.
Developed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his FromSoftware team, to whom we owe Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Elden Ring hired writer George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones) to tie its story together.
Result? An open yet dark and mysterious world that delights players. Indeed, the game has garnered so much praise that God of War Ragnarok will have to work very, very hard at the end of the year to hopefully steal the Game of the Year title from the Elden Ring.

Spiderman: Miles Morales
Miles Morales, released alongside the console in November 2020, is intended to be a “semi-sequel” to the original Spider-Man released in 2018.
Following Miles Morales, the second Spider-Man, while our good old Peter Parker is abroad, accompanying Mary Jane on her journey through Europe. When new villains attack New York, Miles must protect his city.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales builds on the same foundation as its predecessor, but we still added some abilities to Miles, who can emit electricity and turn invisible.
But the heart of this episode lies in its main character, Miles Morales, who we can’t help but adore because he’s so cute.
All this makes us look forward to Spider-Man 2, which should allow us to embody two Spider-Men.
PS: The final version also comes with an upgraded version of Spider-Man!
