The identity of the avatars in the Metaverse worlds under the Coinbase banner?

Coinbase is preparing for the metaverse, this time deciding to focus on an area that most developers seem to have overlooked, but which is a vital part of this virtual world. Yes, it is a question of identity.

In one of his recent posts, Exchange founder Brian Armstrong set out to explain his company’s plans for the Metaverse. Coinbase’s point of view is best explained by Mathew Ball, a renowned venture capitalist and author:

“The Future of the Internet:” The Metaverse is an interoperable, persistent, interactive, real-time, large-scale platform made up of interconnected virtual worlds where people can socialize, work, interact, play, or even create. “”

Take the control

While the vast majority of people think of the Metaverse as something like gaming, VR, or Web3, Armstrong sees it differently. It is assumed that, unlike the Internet today, there will be many different Metavers that will be interconnected when the job is done.

This is important, he says, in the sense that it will bring untrustworthy interactions within the ecosystem to life by using blockchain to transfer identity and ownership through Metavers. Thus, it is no longer necessary to resort to intermediaries or obtain authorization from the authorities to participate in the activities.

Create unique identities in the worlds of the Metaverse

In his reflection, Mr. Armstrong adds that while many entities are already familiar with this new technology, creating games and virtual simulations of real-world objects, he personally feels that something is being left out.

So, Coinbase has made the “identity agenda” one of its top priorities for the future. Armstrong sees a great opportunity in giving the characters of these virtual worlds an enduring identity.

“Identity determines who you are, what you have access to, what you can do, and how you are represented in the worlds of the Metaverse.”

For all this to work, that identity must include a simple login, a unique identifier, an avatar that represents the user, metadata that allows tracking of the user, and certifications to prove their identity.

To that end, Coinbase wants to create a sort of identity ramp in the Metaverse by working with ENS to create a unique NFT username that results in a wallet. Users will thus have a unique identifier that will allow them to be uniquely identified in the different worlds of the Metaverse.

Coinbase is also working on a project that will allow users to purchase an avatar, establish and maintain their public profile, and will also help build trust. Once this project is complete, users will be able to log into any Metaverse application.
