The Pirates claim: The “booster” shot four months after the second dose.

In view of a study on the loss of effectiveness of anti-Covid-19 vaccines, the Pirates are asking the government to shorten the time between the second and third doses for vaccinated AstraZeneca.

To maintain a high level of vaccine protection for people already vaccinated against Covid and protect them from serious forms, such as death, the Higher Council for Infectious Diseases has recommended a “booster” dose for people over 65 and health professionals as of November 8. On Friday, Xavier Bettel and Paulette Lenert announced that this retreat will become widespread in Luxembourg and will be open to anyone over 18 years of age.

The first invitations were mailed this week to those who have been vaccinated for six months with the AstraZeneca, Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. And for a month with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

People who receive a full schedule of vaccines with AstraZeneca should not wait 6 months after the second injection, but only four months, the Pirate Party believed Wednesday.

We ask the government, in the hypothesis of seeing the results of this study confirmed by other scientists, to shorten the deadlines so that they are respected by all the people who have benefited from the AstraZeneca vaccine in order to minimize the risk of possible infection. “they write in a press release dated Wednesday.

The Pirates refer to a Swedish study on “the efficacy of vaccination against Covid-19 against the risk of symptomatic infection, hospitalization and death for up to 9 months.” If they have not yet been endorsed by other scientists, the results of this study show that the BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines “already lose their effectiveness before the sixth month.”

And “this is particularly true for the AstraZeneca vaccine, for which the study shows an extremely significant loss of efficacy after four months (while the risk of serious illness remains limited),” the Pirates note. While the Biontec / Pfizer vaccine still provides protection against symptomatic infection “on the order of 50% four months after the second dose”.
