The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, created for the Gran Turismo game

The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is the first Porsche prototype created specifically for a video game. It will be offered exclusively in Gran Turismo 7, which will be released on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

In partnership with Japanese video game studio Polyphony Digital Inc., a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Porsche is presenting a spectacular car concept.

The Vision Gran Turismo combines typical Porsche design cues with a futuristic approach. The concept car uses the brand’s characteristic proportions, in particular with a particularly sporty height-width ratio, an extremely low front bonnet and sharply curved fenders.

“The creation of a car destined exclusively for virtual universes opens up fascinating possibilities, which would be very restricted in the conventional design process of a production model”, says Michael Mauer, director of Porsche Style.

“For our teams, projects like the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo are particularly interesting from a creative point of view. Defining the stylistic signature of Porsche Design and interacting with designers from other sectors is an important part of our work.”

While this partnership with Polyphony Digital is part of a specific brand approach, it also attests to the strong business expertise of Porsche designers. Freed from the limitations of mass production, they were able to implement their own vision for a Gran Turismo prototype.

Elegant front bumper lights and integrated air intakes are reminiscent of the Taycan’s stylistic codes, referring to the Vision Gran Turismo’s 100% electric powertrain. At the stern, a particularly thin strip of light echoes the stylistic signature of the 911 and Taycan models.

In addition to the visual appearance, the new features also help create a typical sports car experience. Therefore, gamers benefit from haptic feedback in the controller that is as fast as it is direct, reproducing the feel of the steering wheel and reminiscent of the sensations of a real racing car. The development of Porsche’s activities in the world of video games also responds to strategic questions.

“This enables us to reach young, digital-oriented target groups in the exact place where their automotive dreams come true – in video games,” explains Robert Ader, vice president in charge of marketing at Porsche AG. “This partnership with Polyphony Digital and ‘Gran Turismo’ fits perfectly with Porsche, because motorsport, whether virtual or real, is written in the genes of our brand.”

The integration of the first Porsche sports car developed exclusively for the virtual world thus marks an important step in the strategic relationship between Porsche and Polyphony Digital Inc.
