The third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is here and you can watch the first episode for free

The cartoon mayhem of Star Trek: The Lower Decks is back for a third season, and you can watch the first episode for free on YouTube.

At the end of Season 2, we saw Captain Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) being arrested and handcuffed away by the Starfleet Command team for destroying the planet Pakled, and Ensign Boymler (Jack Quaid) swimming with two beluga whales. and Ensign Mariner (Tony Newsom) almost flies off into space, but is rescued at the last minute by her rival Jennifer Andorian (Lauren Lapkus).

The third season premiere is titled “Grounding,” directed by Jason Zurek, who has four episodes of the show under his belt. And as always, this sweet space satire is under the scrutiny of showrunner Mike McMahan. Plus, as always, Season 3 promises to be an Easter egg extravaganza with references to all sorts of previous entries, including Deep Space 9 and the 2009 JJ Abrams movie.

And in case you haven’t heard, or at least forgot, it was revealed during Paramount’s Star Trek panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that the cast of the Lower Decks animated series will be in a major crossover with Weird new worlds.” Anson Mount (Captain Pike) broke the news after Tony Newsom and Jack Quaid “surprise” appeared on the panel, sharing that Ensign Mariner (Newsom) and Ensign Bauimler (Quaid) will appear in Season 2 of Strange New Worlds. . “, not as animated characters.

Perhaps the viewer was hoping that during the pre-credits scene they would think they were watching the wrong show before realizing, but it looks like the notorious Caitian has now fallen out of the bag. This potentially intriguing episode will be directed by…yes, you guessed it, Jonathan Frakes, so it remains to be seen if that will be a hindrance or a help. Frakes did not direct a single episode of Strange New Worlds, and it proved to be the highest-grossing Star Trek series on Paramount Plus. Just two facts that may or may not be related.
