Ryan Grantham in Season 4 of Riverdale.
CRIME – When reality meets fiction. Ryan Grantham, aka Jeffrey Augustine, the killer of Riverdale’s father Archie, who only appears in Episode 1 of Season 4, was sentenced to life in prison this Wednesday, September 21 for killing his mother in Canada .
Radio Canada present at the hearing reports that Ryan Grantham filmed himself on a Go Pro on the day of the tragedy in 2020. The former actor had to show the crime scene and describe what happened. He explains that he killed his mother Barbara Waite with a bullet to the back of the head while she was playing the piano at home.
The next day, the 24-year-old man made the decision to cover his mother’s body with a sheet, place candles around it, and hang a rosary on the piano. Ryan Grantham then set off in a car loaded with guns and ammunition to drive to Ottawa to see Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and assassinate him. Along the way, he decides to turn around to go to his old university in British Columbia to stage a mass shooting. Eventually, he will go to the Vancouver police station to confess to his crime.
According to the judge, Ryan Grantham’s mental health had clearly deteriorated in the months leading up to his crime. The young man spent his days in isolation smoking marijuana and watching videos on the dark web. He is also reported to have had suicidal thoughts. The latter also sought psychiatric help in prison.
After pleading guilty to second-degree murder, the former Riverdale actor apologized to the British Columbia Supreme Court, saying his mother was a loving person and certainly didn’t deserve what he did to her. Sentenced to life in prison, he will not be eligible for parole until he has spent at least 14 years in prison.
