Tourism: Did the Americans save the French summer season?

lWill French tourism benefit from the war in Ukraine and the expulsion of Russians? According to the American continuous news channel CNN, visitors from North America should be the biggest source of income for the Parisian tourist market. To American journalists, the mayor’s office of Paris points out that “the Americans are doing their job […]they come back in droves and with a lot of money to spend,” said Frédéric Okar, tourism assistant.

Paris is far from the only tourist region that has benefited from a strong return of visitors from the other side of the Atlantic. Much further south, the Côte d’Azur and Nice, from the very beginning of the summer season, rejoiced at the return of the Americans. On July 6, the regional daily newspaper Nice-Matin even hit the front page, our American colleagues note. Moreover, in connection with the war in Ukraine, the disappearance of Russian tourists made professionals in the Mediterranean Arc sector fear a difficult season.
