Former Democratic congressman and presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ report on marijuana lawsuits after Harris condemned the jailing of Russian WNBA star Britney Griner on cannabis charges.
“Another tone of hypocrisy coming from Kamala Harris and this administration is mentioned during her distinguished record as Attorney General of California… she kept prisoners in jail longer than their sentence to use them as free slaves, but at the same time were they the same. people condemning other countries for the same thing,” Gabbard told Fox News host Will Kane.
This week, a Russian court sentenced Griner to nine years in prison after he was caught with a pen for spraying marijuana at an airport outside Moscow earlier this year.
The verdict was widely condemned by US officials, including Harris, who said she was working to get Griner released.

“With today’s verdict, Russia continues its wrongful detention of Britney Griner. She should be released immediately,” Harris wrote on Thursday. “@POTUS and I and our entire government work every day to reunite Britney and Paul Whelan with the loved ones they each miss.”
Gabbard, who stressed that she also opposes Griner’s sentencing, said “what struck me” in Harris’ tweet was that her administration did not express the same opinion about people accused of marijuana-related crimes, according to the whole country.

“Where is your outrage at your fellow Americans who are in prison here in the United States of America today for minor marijuana offenses,” Gabbard said. “Why don’t you fight so hard to get them home and reunite with their families like you did for Britney Greener?”
Gabbard added that she believes Harris is sending the signal that the rich and powerful in the United States will be treated differently than ordinary Americans when it comes to prosecutions for marijuana-related crimes.

“Unfortunately, like too many politicians, she seems to have her finger on the pulse and decide what she should be angry about on any given day, and if it becomes politically awkward or harmful, she will turn to the other side.” “. Gabbard said Harris is prosecuting marijuana offenders as California Attorney General.
The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
