Like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, during the pandemic, Twitter had special rules in place to combat false health information. The platform specifically decided to report and remove posts containing misinformation about Covid vaccines and then block the accounts in question after five warnings.
“We believe this warning system will help inform the public about our rules and better reduce the spread of potentially harmful or misleading information on Twitter,” the social network justified in March 2021.
A policy that goes against the concept of absolute freedom of speech advocated by the new owner of the platform, Elon Musk. He has also been strongly opposed to the health restrictions imposed during the pandemic, especially when they meant the temporary closure of his Tesla plant in California.
