Twitter: Will a certified account become profitable in the age of Elon Musk?

He immediately intends to implement a profitable strategy. A few days after taking control of the social network Twitter, Elon Musk decided to charge for the certification of accounts through a monthly subscription to Twitter Blue, reports The Verge. On Sunday, Twitter employees were instructed to implement the payment system by November 7th. If so… they will be fired.

Specifically, the current $4.99 (€5.03) Twitter Blue subscription used primarily by businesses will be replaced by a $19.99 subscription that will offer additional features including account certification. In a configuration that would have been saved, already certified accounts must subscribe to the service within 90 days or they would lose their blue badge.

Twitter’s business model has always been based on ads, but Elon Musk relies on subscription formulas to increase revenue and finally become profitable. At the risk of provoking a churn of users from the platform to competitors such as Mastodon, a social network from the free software world.
