We know about Ubisoft’s interest in NFTs. It Materializes: The developer introduces Quartz, its NFT exchange platform based on unique objects from its game catalog. The platform will launch in beta with elements of Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Like many other players in the gaming industry, we know that Ubisoft is interested in NFTs, these “non-fungible tokens” based on blockchain technologies and intended to individualize and certify digital (artistic) objects to facilitate their marketing. Obviously, the interest of the Breton group is already very concrete since Ubisoft presents Quartz, its NFT exchange platform.
Classically, Quartz should allow the acquisition of digital objects, called “Digits” through the Ubisoft platform, to collect them, possibly for use in the game, but also to trade them to other collectors. As a first step, the platform must be supported by Ghost Recon Breakpoint: the platform must allow the acquisition of “Digits”, here cosmetic objects from Ghost Recon Breakpoint, all unique (the objects are available in limited series and all numbered, so that therefore, each buyer has a single copy).
As for the art market, the level of supply and demand for “Digits” will determine the value of each object and, in this speculative context, owners may sometimes want to keep their “Digits” in the hope that they will increase in value, sometimes trying to sell them to other collectors.
As we know, the subject of NFT is delicate, both from a legal point of view and with certain players (resistant to the monetization of game content). Initially, Ubisoft intends to carefully launch its Quartz platform in beta version (starting tomorrow, December 9 at 7 pm) and with the first “Digits” of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, clearly distributed for free, in addition to being reserved for Active Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Players on PC via Ubisoft Connect, at least XP level 5 in game and over 18 years of age. We can imagine, however, that if this beta proves strong, other games in the Ubisoft catalog will have the vocation of integrating the Quartz platform in order to distribute more “Digits” of all kinds.
