Fortnite players traveling the hit battle royale game are reporting alien abductions ahead of a season that could be UFO-focused.
A slew of bloggers and Fortnite players are sharing their adventures on social media following an update from creator Epic Games on Tuesday (June 1). Epic also teasers are reported to be posting on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube with the slogan “They’re coming” and some garbled speech, and the release date for Season 7 of Chapter 2 is June 8th.
BUT a bright light appears in the field of view YouTube blogger Ali “SypherPK” Hassan, who recorded his UFO abduction around the seven-minute mark of this video. “Is it because I look at the stars?” he says as the light flickers and pulsates ominously.
“Oh, shoot! I’m being kidnapped – let’s go! ” Then SypherPK cries. Moments later, his avatar travels through a green tunnel and then respawns facedown with full health elsewhere on the map.
According to the vloggers, no one has yet noticed what the aliens look like or what kind of ship they are using. There seems to be no specific trigger for this event, which usually occurs in central areas of the map such as Risky Reels and The Spire. according to Forbes…
“This may only happen a certain number of times per game, and you may not be ‘chosen’ to receive the blessing of total healing from the aliens,” the Forbes report says.
Epic is known to rip the map completely at the end of the season, and past finals have seen it all flooded or thrown into a black hole. In 2019 erupting volcano and destroyed a popular landmark known as the Leaning Towers.
The company has yet to say if the current season finale will feature an event similar to six months ago; end of chapter 2 season 4 saw players take control of the legendary battle bus – which throws players onto the map at the start of each day – to battle Galactus in an epic battle to save reality. Galactus was approaching the map for the entire season, and the battle that followed echoed Star Wars: A New Hope (1977).
Fortnite’s Alien Season is rumored to be a natural sequel to other space content over the past year or so. The players had to chase ancient astronaut over the course of several weeks in Season 3 Chapter 2 of 2020. December of the same year The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda were the main skins for Chapter 2, Season 5, in which players took on quests such as hunting the bounty hunter on his ship, Razor Crest.
Players also have the opportunity to periodically space shopping in the store, although Fortnite skipped out on its long-standing tradition of celebrating Star Wars Day on May 4th with skins featuring characters like Finn, Rey, or the Stormtrooper.
Behind the scenes, Epic Games is waging its own battle against Apple over the tech giant’s App Store practices, although none of the charges have been proven in court. Epic had a couple Fortnite in-game events Apple protests in 2020; Fortnite, meanwhile, has been unavailable on the App Store since last year. The Verge has resume of work for the last weeks while the community is waiting for a verdict.
