Upper Saone. Young man killed near a pond: he was killed for 200,000 euros in cryptocurrency

The prosecution had evoked a “vile motive” at the end of August. The investigation confirmed it. A man and a woman are suspected of having participated, in August in Plancher-Bas (Haute-Saône), in the organization of the murder of a 19-year-old student who they wanted to steal … approximately 200,000 euros of cryptocurrency. The couple was arrested on Friday, Besançon prosecutor Etienne Manteaux announced at a press conference, according to our colleagues from L’Est Républicain.

The two individuals, accused of “complicity in murder”, admitted to having been informed of the plan of three of their relatives to assassinate the victim. These three relatives had already been charged and imprisoned for “murder” last August.

“A torture session”

On August 18, the body of the student, originally from Tours, was found in a pond in Plancher-Bas, a small town east of Haute-Saône. The autopsy revealed more than twenty stab wounds to the neck and torso, none of which was fatal, which makes it possible to consider “a torture session,” according to the Besançon prosecutor. The student finally drowned, after being thrown into the pond, still dying.

According to investigations by the Besançon gendarmerie investigation section, this computer enthusiast had “created software for trading in the field of cryptocurrencies,” Commander Yves Raguin said. He had revealed to his partner, a 32-year-old man living in Montbéliard (Doubs), that he had raised around 200,000 euros in cryptocurrencies, including bitcoins. The latter had informed his twin brother and his wife, domiciled in Haute-Saône, that they were housing two young men from their family of fragile personalities, aged 18 and 23.

No one assumes they have been stabbed.

When the body was discovered, the 30-year-old colleague had first declared to the gendarmes that he had been the target, with the student, of a homophobic attack, before admitting during his police custody that he had participated in the murder, with both of them. 18 and 23 year olds. The trio acknowledged their involvement, “even if no one assumes they stabbed,” the prosecutor said. And the suspects eventually revealed that the twin brother and his wife helped them plan the crime.

These five individuals with modest incomes had already determined the distribution of the loot to come. They also allegedly promoted a first assassination attempt that failed the day before the crime. The courts knew them for minor offenses and the woman in the group, who had opened an online account before the murder, has already been convicted of scams.
