Vaccinated people and Covid-19: understand everything about what it is possible to do (or not)

This is an encouraging easing after more than a year of the epidemic. The European and American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the High Council of Public Health (HSCP) have recently updated their recommendations in terms of barrier actions. In certain situations, it is now possible for vaccinated people to do without a mask. But this is not a return to normal for all that. Far from it. In general, the instructions remain strict and the absence of protection on the face is only possible in the private sphere for people who have followed a complete vaccination schedule.

“If you have received only one injection of the vaccine or no injection at all, you are not sufficiently protected. A person is considered to be fully vaccinated two weeks after the injection of the second dose of the vaccine. ‘an mRNA vaccine or fifteen days after the injection of a single-dose vaccine. There is also a third scenario: that of people who have received a single injection a few months after having contracted Covid-19 “, specifies Didier Pelletier, co-chair of the HCSP working group that drafted the opinion.

For these three groups of citizens, some rules change. They can now meet indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask. They can also meet indoors with unvaccinated people from another household (for example, to visit relatives who all live together) without wearing a mask, unless one of these people is at risk. increased serious illness due to Covid-19 (old age, diabetes, etc.). In this case, it is better to organize the meeting outside, and to respect the usual barrier gestures. The important thing, says the US CDC, is to prevent two unvaccinated households from mixing. For example: if perfectly vaccinated grandparents visit their unvaccinated daughter and children, and the neighbors invite each other to the party, the meeting should take place outside, each wearing a well-fitting mask and keeping a physical distance of at least 1.80. And generally speaking, the CDC always recommends avoiding medium or large gatherings.

Limited offer. 2 months for 1 € without commitment

The discourse is the same on the European side: “In a private family or friendly environment in a closed indoor environment, all the people together may not wear a mask if they have all benefited from a complete vaccination schedule and on condition that they respect the others. barrier measures: hand hygiene, interindividual distance, ventilation and limitation of the number of people to 6. This recommendation does not apply if one of the members presents a risk factor for serious forms (age, comorbidity) ” , specifies the HCSP.

Difficult to release ballast on restaurants or nightclubs

“It’s a small relief, concedes Didier Pelletier. But it is difficult to go further”. Certainly, the risk of you developing Covid-19 is low if you are vaccinated. And from that point of view, the data released by Israel is encouraging: among those tested for the coronavirus at least a week after their second injection, less than 1% tested positive, and less than 0.2% developed symptoms of Covid-19. However, the levels of protection afforded by vaccines vary from one individual to another. “People can develop clinical forms after having received two injections”, assures Didier Pelletier. It is therefore possible to transmit the virus to other people, even if you are vaccinated.

“Faced with these uncertainties, it may be necessary to wait until 60% or 70% of French people are completely vaccinated before considering a relaxation of the measures”, estimates the expert. So far, only 14 million citizens have received their first dose. And about half their second. A further relaxation of the recommendations is therefore not for now. With all due respect to the government, which would like to plan a reopening of certain businesses. “For now, the signals are not good from the point of view of the epidemic. There is really only the private circle of friends and family in which the vaccinated can take off their masks. As for public places , I would maintain all the measures. Confined environments in which it is not possible to respect barrier gestures – such as restaurants or nightclubs, for example – are known to increase the incidence. let go of ballast on that side before several months, ”Didier Pelletier analyzes. On the CDC side, the time is not either for shopping or travel, which are not recommended even for people who have been vaccinated. “We are on the right track”, tempers Didier Pelletier. But, vaccinated or not, we will have to arm ourselves with patience before regaining our previous life.
