Video game sales – PlayStation 5 fell 44% in Europe, while sales of Nintendo and Microsoft rose – GeekNPlay

We currently know that Nintendo is selling Switches in pallets, that the PlayStation 5 is hard to find on sale, and that Microsoft no longer releases numbers… However, some companies would benefit from reporting this if we are to believe Gameintrustry.

Why ? Because the site Gameintrustry just shared a very serious article on this topic and the numbers are not good for some and Sony in particular.

Indeed, the site publishes European figures for early 2022… Big surprise, we learn that Sony has sold less than 2 million PlayStation 5s, which is a free fall in territory with sales 44% lower than last year! It stings doesn’t it?

Along with this, Nintendo Switch sales in the European continent grew by 7%, while Microsoft’s Xbox Series sales also did well with a 9% increase… Interesting numbers to put into perspective.

Indeed, it is worth remembering that after COVID-19, the semiconductor market has been locked down and that many companies can no longer produce consoles, computers, smartphones, and even cars… this is more than others.

In addition, we could also congratulate Nintendo, which has been supplying the Nintendo Switch with exclusives for several months (Mario Strikers, Switch Sports, Xenoblades Chronicle 3, etc.) and which attracts players who want to have fun on it.

For Microsoft, it would seem that the choice to offer two consoles was promising, because if the Xbox Series X is hard to find, then it is not uncommon to find the Xbox Series S on the shelves, as well as on online sales sites. Verdict: Some players are taking the plunge and it’s currently a good alternative when paired with Xbox Game Pass.

In addition, the article also talks about some things about game sales, such as the fact that Elden Ring was the number 1 selling game in the United Kingdom and Pokémon Legends: Arceus was number 1 in Germany and France. Meanwhile, it was FIFA 22 that dominated the first six months in Spain and Italy.

If you would like to know more, we invite you to read the article of our colleagues, available here.
