In particular, Spectralics is developing a Multilayer Thin Combiner (MLTC): this thin optical film is applicable on transparent surfaces, of all shapes and sizes. If this technology is integrated into car windshields and windows, then it would be possible to transmit images on the glass. Volvo’s investment will allow the start-up in particular to continue its R&D on this technology.
In the automotive field, the prospects for Spectralics research are obvious. When used on a windshield, this technology would create a wide field of view for a front viewing screen and virtual objects could be superimposed on the real world. Volvo promises a real improvement in the user experience and greater safety. Other uses of the technology include filters for glasses or holographic projections.
