We finally know the size of the iPhone 14 batteries, and the Pro max loses

The iPhone 14 has better battery life than the iPhone 13, but that doesn’t mean it has a bigger battery. Indeed, the battery of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is smaller than that of its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

During last week’s keynote, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 14 and four affordable models with the improvements they bring. However, he has not yet revealed the capacity of the batteries. The site only lists the maximum autonomy of each model on paper: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Plus promises up to 26 hours of video playback versus 20 hours for the iPhone 14. For the two high-end models, the iPhone 14 Pro Max claims up to 29 hours of video playback versus 23 hours for the 14 Pro. Under normal usage conditions, Apple has confirmed that the four models will last a day without giving further details. We now know the official battery capacity of the iPhone 14. This information was obtained by MacRumors from a Chinese regulatory database.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a smaller battery than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Of the four iPhone 14 models, three have a larger battery than their predecessors. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the only one with a smaller battery, though Apple is promising nearly 30 hours of video playback. Here are the battery capacities:

  • iPhone 14: 3279 mAh;
  • iPhone 14 Plus: 4325 mAh;
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 3200 mAh;
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4323 mAh.

For comparison, the iPhone 13 has the following:

  • iPhone 13 mini: 2406 mAh;
  • iPhone 13: 3227 mAh;
  • iPhone 13 Pro: 3095 mAh;
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4352 mAh.

So the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a smaller battery than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but that small mAh difference won’t make a difference. On the contrary, all iPhone 14 models have better autonomy. In fact, the iPhone 14 Pro Max just relies on better iOS optimizations to keep battery life on a smaller battery. You can also find our comparison of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro specs.

As a reminder, pre-orders for the iPhone 14 have already been open since last week. iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available starting September 16th. You’ll have to wait until October 7th to get the iPhone 14 Plus.
