Cyberpunk 2077: a game eclipsed by the next next-gen consoles?

Announced for several years, Cyberpunk 2077 has continued to surprise players with particularly attractive announcements and presentations. Striking graphics, a unique atmosphere, gameplay comparable to the famous GTAs, Keanu Reeves’ modeling… The characteristics of this future masterpiece amply deserve the interest of gamers.

Several times postponed, the official release of Cyberpunk 2077 is now scheduled for November 19, 2020. Naturally, this date is also associated with a major event in the field of video games: the marketing of the Playstation 5. As such, Sony enjoys already surprisingly successful where pre-orders were sold out only a few days after opening. In addition, Microsoft is encountering a similar phenomenon with its future Xbox Series X / S whose release date is scheduled for November 10, 2020.

With some astonishment, Cyberpunk 2077 is however not eclipsed by these next 2 next-gen consoles (despite the temporary unavailability of a PS5 and Xbox Series X / S version). The CD Projekt game owes its popularity to its single player mode. Indeed, little information was presented about its multiplayer aspect. Should we worry for all that? What about the gaming world and the “paradoxical use” of a VPN server during online games? The rest of this article will give you all the answers you need.

What do we know about Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer mode?

After several presentations of Cyberpunk 2077 from its single player mode, no video has, until today, demonstrated the possibility of playing online with other players. However, during the first announcements of CD Projekt, the game would indeed have a multiplayer mode inspired by GTA 5. The possibility of visiting an open world from stunning graphics is obviously attractive.

After a “radio silence” of several months, CD Projekt confirmed this October 8, 2020 the future availability of a multiplayer mode. However, this will not be offered from the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, whether it is the PS4 version, Xbox One, PC or the next next-gen versions. However, the recent developer announcement brought other much more surprising details … Since this multiplayer mode is not scheduled for the year 2021, but in early 2022. In other words, players will have to wait more than a year to (re) discover their game during online sessions… Information never before seen in the video game industry.

In addition, Cyberpunk 2077’s cross-gen multi compatibility is another announcement particularly awaited by gamers. Indeed, the possibility of playing online without distinction of the platform used would be an additional argument to succumb to this promising title. However, no information has been officially confirmed by CD Projekt. The next few months will certainly allow players to learn more about this timidly presented game mode.

A universe partially inspired by today’s world

Cyberpunk 2077 offers a universe with futuristic looks. The digital world also seems to occupy an important place… And the title of CD Projekt’s creation obviously confirms this information. Will it be possible to hack into computer systems? What will the main role of the player be during the Cyberpunk 2077 single player adventure? One thing is certain: the atmosphere of this game inevitably recalls the cybercrime currently observed on the web.

With a certain paradox, playing Cyberpunk 2077 online can expose players to genuine hacking attempts… and more particularly during multiplayer games. The use of a VPN server thus becomes a preferred solution by many gamers. In practice, these virtual private networks effectively make it possible to hide your IP address in order to avoid situations which have increasingly been identified in recent years.

To conclude

Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer mode will not be available upon launch of the CD Projekt game. In addition, little information has been formalized by the developer. The next few months will undoubtedly allow players to learn more.
