What will change in August for WhatsApp users

Voices in stories, quick reactions, connecting on two different smartphones, avatars… Here are all the new features you’ll be able to discover soon in the WhatsApp messaging app.

Quick reactions

“WhatsApp plans to introduce 8 emoji to be used when responding to status updates” in the Android app, according to WABetaInfo. Namely, a smiling emoji with heart-shaped eyes, with tears of joy, with an open mouth, crying, with arms crossed and clapping, a confetti emoji, and finally, “one hundred points.” These emoticons will be displayed in the reply status in the chat. The feature is under development.

Voice messages in Stories

Also, according to WABetaInfo, it will soon be possible to directly record voice messages to enrich your WhatsApp stories. Just like images and videos shared in statuses, voice memos can only be heard by the people the user has selected in their status’s privacy settings. Another point, the voice note will be encrypted from start to finish.

Connecting on two different smartphones

In a future update, the “Multi-device 2.0” feature of the messaging app will allow users to link an additional secondary mobile device to their WhatsApp account. Thus, it will be possible to communicate on two devices at the same time. And this is with the same account and without the need for an active Internet connection on the main device to send messages. WABetaInfo adds that WhatsApp will work on syncing chat history across mobile devices. This feature is under development.

“Better” to hide your “online” status

Soon, for some of his contacts, a small indicator informing that the user is online may be disabled. Thus, it will be possible to connect to the application without the knowledge of other people. Specifically, the user will be able to choose between two options. Either show everyone its “online” status, or use the same settings as for “Seen in”. “For example, if you select ‘My Contacts’ for ‘Last Seen’ and ‘Same as Last Seen’ for ‘Online’, this means that non-contacts won’t be able to see when you’re online,” WABetaInfo explains. .

Coming soon 3D avatars

WhatsApp should offer its users to create a virtual avatar in their image. During video calls, you can use these 3D avatars instead of your own face. To create and edit this avatar, the user will have access to a new in-app editing tool.

According to WABetainfo, development is already well advanced and should be tested on a sample of users soon.
