Today (December 8), the new National Geographic series “Welcome to Earth” arrives on Disney Plus, featuring Oscar-nominated actor Will Smith in his latest role: Explorer. In the series, Smith teams up with different scientists and explorers who embark on incredible and exciting adventures around the world. The six-episode limited series does a masterful job of highlighting the breathtaking natural beauty of planet Earth.

The series shows a wide variety of remote, even dangerous, corners of the planet, “from volcanoes that roar silently to deserts that are beyond our perception and swarms of animals with minds of their own,” according to Disney Plus.

Lin, as well as Diva Amon, an emerging marine biologist and Nat Geo explorer, and Dwayne Fields, a Nat Geo explorer, who also appear alongside Smith in the series, shared with Space.com how real the explorations filmed for “Welcome!” Are. to Earth “they really were.

“We train a lot,” Lin said. As they went out into nature with “the best equipment in the world,” Lin said, “nature is nature and it always honors you.”

“I remember there was a time, we are trying to descend 400 feet [122 meters] in this huge cave; it’s just a landing area, you’re really hanging from the thread or rope, “said Lin.” Then we’re going to dive into this bottomless pit. “

Without giving too much away, Lin’s description is really just the tip of the iceberg of the thrilling action and majestic, natural wonder that unfolds before your eyes in “Welcome to Earth.”

“Welcome to Earth” is produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, Protozoa Pictures, Jane Root’s Nutopia and Westbrook Studios.
