Windows 11: 3 ways to install or update Windows 10 –

On October 5, 2021, Microsoft began rolling out its new Windows 11 operating system in its final version. It succeeds Windows 10, which was not yet the last of the Windows systems and was released in July 2015. It will continue to be supported for a few more years, until at least 2025.

If Windows 10 will still be supported and will not be replaced by Windows 11, then the minimum system requirements are quite severe and many computers will not be upgradeable. Among the prerequisites, PCs must, in particular, integrate a TPM chip. At the processor level, only the latest are eligible. Therefore, an 8th generation Intel processor or AMD Ryzen 2000 and later are supported. Therefore, computers sold more than 3 years ago have little chance of being offered an upgrade.

Should we upgrade to Windows 11 now?

If you are one of the owners of a compatible machine, it remains to be seen if it is really necessary to upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft does not recommend it yet, or, in any case, not for everyone. In fact, the publisher has explained that the distribution would be done gradually and that it was aimed at mid-2022 to provide the update to all compatible PCs.

On the official update tools download page below, Microsoft even encourages you to wait for information via Windows Update to start the transition to Windows 11.

If the publisher is suspicious, it’s because some updates made during the arrival of major versions of Windows 10 didn’t go as smoothly as they did in the fall of 2018 when a major bug forced Microsoft to suspend streaming. Since retransmissions are made more gradually to avoid this type of problem.

So you need to be careful and ideally wait for Windows Update to invite you to take the plunge. If you decide to force the update, make sure to back up your personal files to an external storage system first. Also remember to prepare your PC to receive this update.

1. Go to Windows Update

If you have read the previous paragraph, then you know that this method is the way of wisdom and the one recommended by Microsoft. It is also the one that will ask you for a bit of patience, especially if your computer was not bought very recently, since the most recent machines will be the ones that are attended first.

To see if your PC is eligible today, go to Windows 10 settings under “Update & Security.” Check for updates and see if a message asks you to upgrade to Windows 11.

Otherwise, install all available Windows 10 updates and reboot before searching again. If after another reboot nothing is offered, go to the second method.

2. With the Windows 11 installation wizard

If Windows Update refuses to offer you an update to Windows 11 but you know your machine is compatible, there is a way to force your hand. As with the major Windows 10 updates, Microsoft offers a tool that will allow you to update to the latest version of the Windows 11 system.

The tool is easy to use, but it will first ask you to verify compatibility with other Microsoft software, the Windows 11 Compatibility Tool, also known as a PC Integrity Check, also known as Windows PC Health Check, before to continue with the procedure.

With the announcement of the upcoming Windows 11 release, Microsoft has also introduced a new tool for checking your computer’s compatibility with the new operating system: PC Health Check (Windows 11 compatibility tool).

3. Using Windows 11 Media Creation Tool to install a blank system

The arrival of Windows 11 is also perhaps the occasion to start over with new bases with your PC. It is also a good way to avoid possible errors that would be caused by the update process. We will probably discover a few in the next few weeks.

Of course, this requires a bit of preparation on your part by manually recovering all your files, or even copying important parts of your system to an external hard drive. Then all you have to do is mount the recovered ISO file (right click> mount) and run the .exe file.

ISO files

If you recover the ISO file from another PC, you can burn it to a USB drive to run on any other computer.

Windows 11 Media Creation Tool is a very simple utility for creating bootable media to install Microsoft’s new operating system – Windows 11.
