Windows 11: Microsoft introduces a new label for its Xbox games

Microsoft’s latest preview build of Windows 11 introduces a new “control panel” menu to quickly launch recently played Xbox games. Control Panel is a major update for Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22616 for Developer Channels and Windows Insiders Beta, which also fixes many bugs.

The bar is a preview of the new Xbox Game Bar that opens when users pair or connect an Xbox controller to a PC. The bar displays a row of icons for the three games the user has recently played on the local device, as well as installed game launchers. The control panel may appear when you are not playing a game by pressing the Xbox button on your controller. If you’re already in a game, the Xbox buttons provide direct access to the Xbox Game Bar and standard game widgets.

To use this feature on a Windows 11 PC, users must have the appropriate preview build and install the Xbox Insider Hub from the Microsoft Store. Users must sign in to the Xbox Insider Hub and join the Insider Program, then go to the Previews section and join the Windows Gaming Preview.

Strategic game dimension

Users must ensure they have Xbox Game Bar version 5.722.5022.0 or later installed and then pair or connect the controller. Microsoft has also created a Game Bar Preview page on Reddit so testers can share feedback and bug reports with Microsoft. Games are an important part of Microsoft’s plans to increase the popularity of Windows 11.

Microsoft, in particular, is relying on the built-in Xbox app, which provides easier access to Game Pass, a service that has yet to see mainstream adoption but could be supported by Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

At the time of publication, Microsoft has warned power users that the system tray will no longer support drag and drop to pin and unpin these items. It also introduced an optional setting to completely hide the “Show Hidden Icons” button in order to simplify the taskbar. But insiders immediately complained that after installing it, they cannot move the icons on the taskbar, and they persist after closing the application.
