Windows 11: the ISO of the Preview is available for download, here’s how to install it

You can now download the official Windows 11 installation image in ISO format. Microsoft has just made the first Windows 11 ISO images available on its Windows Preview download page.

For now, Microsoft is offering the Preview of build 22000.132 of the Developer and Beta channels. Each of these builds includes Windows 11 Home, Pro, and Education editions.

To access this download page, you must be a member of the Microsoft Insider program, and sign in to your Microsoft account. After selecting the version of the Preview to retrieve, Microsoft will ask you to choose the language of the OS before offering you a download link. Be careful, however, that it only remains active for 24 hours.

The recovered ISO image, which weighs just over 5 GB, can then be used to upgrade a compatible machine that already has Windows or to perform a clean install.

For an upgrade, double click on the .ISO file to mount and open it on your machine, and run the file setup.exe it contains. Then select the option Modify the parameters to keep and choose to Keep personal files and apps before validating.

To perform a clean install, the procedure is similar, but slightly different. After opening the ISO file and clicking on Setup.exe, select the option Modify the parameters to keep then click on Nothing to start a clean install of Windows 11.

You can also create a bootable Windows 11 installer USB key and then boot a compatible computer onto it to launch a Clean Install of the Preview of the new Microsoft OS.
