The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics slide to the starting line. Athletes from around the world will come together to compete in a record 109 events in 15 disciplines across seven sports.

The 2022 Winter Olympics schedule is 17 days long and packed with events ranging from figure skating to bobsled to skiing. Seven new events are making their debut: men’s and women’s big air freestyle, women’s monobob and mixed team competitions in aerial freestyle skiing, ski jumping, snowboard cross and mixed short track speed skating relays.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for February 4 and will take place at the Beijing National Stadium (also known as the Bird’s Nest), which was first used for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

The United States will field more than 100 athletes at the 2022 Winter Olympics. All nine gold medalists from PyeongChang are expected to compete in Beijing, along with other top contenders. They include Shaun White Snowboarding, Chloe Kim Snowboarding, Mikaela Shiffrin Alpine Skiing, Nathan Chen Figure Skating, David Wise Freestyle Skiing, Jamie Anderson Slopestyle and Big Air, Red Gerard Slopestyle, Elana Meyers Taylor Sledding, Jessie Diggins in cross-country skiing, Brittany Bowe in speed skating and Erin Jackson in speed skating.

Team USA is also a strong contender for medals in women’s ice hockey and men’s curling.
