Xbox Series X and S: Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos exclusive 2 years

We knew the game exclusives, but the Xbox teams have just announced that the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies are in fact exclusive to the brand for a period of two years.

Xbox and Dolby hand in hand for two years

We have been talking about Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on Xbox for a long time now on Xboxygen since the list of games available in Dolby Atmos on Xbox is already quite substantial. Cyberpunk 2077, Gears 5 or Call of Duty Warzone are some of these games that offer a Dolby Atmos soundtrack for the most effective spatialization in the game.

As far as Dolby Vision is concerned, it’s a different story since the games available in Dolby Vision are still few in number. As a reminder, Dolby Vision is a dynamic HDR solution. That is, instead of having a single brightness setting for an entire movie or game, Dolby Vision has a lot more information to dynamically adjust its brightness scene after scene. The goal is obviously to obtain the best possible brightness, and by extension the most accurate colors, according to the various constraints imposed by the image and the developers.

Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced the availability of Dolby Vision on Apple TV and we also know that Xbox Insiders members can preview Dolby Vision on select games. For the moment, it is also not possible to enjoy Dolby Vision in 4K at 120 Hz, but LG has promised to bring these features to its 2021 OLED models “soon”.

The Xbox Series X | S have been Dolby Atmos compatible since their release and Dolby Vision will arrive on these consoles during the year 2021, both technologies will remain exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem for two years.

Xbox France announces today that Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision technologies are exclusive to Xbox for a period of two years. They could therefore arrive on PS5 from November 2023 if we rely on the release of the latest Xbox consoles.

Of course, it is impossible to realize the visual gain on a screen that is not Dolby Vision (for example a smartphone or a PC), and it is necessary to benefit from a compatible TV (for example LG OLED TVs ) to enjoy the show.
