Fortnite is back, i.e. on iOS. In September 2021what will ban the insanely popular multiplayer shooter from the App Store, from companies .
For months, Fortnite was only available on Android, but thanks to Microsoft and Nvidia, you can finally play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad.
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced a partnership with Epic Games that will make Fortnite available to anyone with a web browser.. Nvidia has announced a similar partnership with Epic Games that also allows you to .
If you’re itching to play Fortnite again on your iPhone or iPad, here’s what you need to know.
Fortnite is available to play on GeFORce Now for iOS.
For Xbox Cloud Gaming, first create or sign in with your Microsoft account.
If you already have a Microsoft account, you can skip to the next section. Otherwise, you must first create a Microsoft account, which will only take a few minutes.
On your iPhone or iPad, in your web browser of choice, go to the Microsoft sign-up website and create a new account using your email address or phone number. The process includes creating a password, adding your name and date of birth, verifying your email address, and solving a puzzle to prove you’re not a bot.
Save your username and password in iCloud, or store your credentials elsewhere as you’ll need them later to play Fortnite.
You can quickly create a Microsoft account.
Now go to the Xbox Cloud Gaming website and add it to your home screen.
In Safari, Chrome, or another mobile web browser, navigate toand tap the green “Play for Free” button below the Fortnite logo. If you haven’t signed in to your Microsoft account yet, do so now. An Xbox account is also required to play all games, so if you’re asked to create an Xbox account, do so.
Then press the green “Get ready to play” button – a window will appear at the bottom of the screen asking you to add Xbox Cloud Gaming to your home screen in order to launch the game from there. To do this, click the Share button on the navigation bar, then click Add to Home Screen. You need to add the website to your home button or you won’t be able to play Fortnite.
Add the Xbox Cloud Gaming service to your home screen.
Finally, open the app from your home screen and play Fortnite.
When the Xbox Cloud Gaming website appears on your home screen, tap Play for Free, sign in with your Microsoft account, then tap Play to start playing Fortnite.
An Xbox loading screen will appear, followed by one from Fortnite. Use the on-screen controls to link your Fortnite account or play as a guest (I’m having trouble playing as a guest so I recommend linking an existing Fortnite account or creating a new one).
On the top left, you have a range of controls to mute your microphone, exit the game, customize controls, bring up the Xbox menu, and more. For the best experience, pull down the control center, make sure the portrait lock button is disabled, and flip your phone horizontally to play in full screen mode.
In terms of gameplay, Fortnite obviously doesn’t work as well as it does on your PC or game console, and the controls are a little tricky to master, but at least it gives you the ability to play on the go – as long as you have pretty decent internet connection.
Here’s how Fortnite via Xbox Cloud Gaming looks on iPad.
As long as you’re a GeForce Now member, you can also play Fortnite on iOS thanks to Nvidia’s video game streaming service. However, unlike Xbox Cloud Gaming, you are limited to one hour session at a time with a free GeForce Now membership. After an hour, the service will automatically shut down, and while you can start another hour-long session right after that, the constant breaks aren’t ideal.
To play Fortnite, go to the GeForce Now website in a web browser, tap the share icon, and tap Add to Home Screen to add the service to your home screen as an “app”. Then launch the GeForce Now app you just created, accept the terms and conditions, and tap fortnite.
Before you can play the game, you must either sign in to your existing account or create a new one. Select the free membership option (you can also pay to avoid session interruptions) and enter your email address, password, display name, and your date of birth. Once your account has been created, go back and click Play to download Fortnite.
As with Xbox Cloud Gaming, you have a number of touch controls to play with, as well as summoning the keyboard, mic mute, copy and paste, and more. And as mentioned in the previous section, it’s best to play the game horizontally so you have more screen space.
You can also play Fortnite on GeForce Now.
