Back in November, Google promised to help with tracking shipments – you know, everything that we bought as a gift for ourselves, loved ones. No need to click on email links or copy and paste tracking numbers to another website to get detailed information about the location of our package. You can simply open the send notification email to get this information. This feature didn’t materialize in time to help us with the deluge of holiday packages, but now it’s finally live.
You’ll have to manually enable package tracking, and it’s currently only available on Android and iOS devices through the Gmail app. To enable this feature, open the Gmail app and tap the hamburger icon in the top left corner. For Android, scroll down and select Settings, then select your email account. In these account settings, scroll to the middle to find Parcel Tracking and check the box. For iOS, scroll down to Settings > Data Privacy, then check the Parcel Tracking box.

Now, when you open the delivery email, you should see dynamically added information at the top with the delivery status – sent, in transit, or delivered. Not using the Gmail app on your phone? The web version is apparently not far off. In the meantime, you can use the downtime to clean up your inbox a bit.
