Game news New PlayStation 5 next year?
Published on 11.08.2022 at 13:14
According to some leaks, a new PlayStation 5 model will be planned for 2023.
While several PS5 versions have already been released, some leaks suggest that a new, lighter model could be released as early as 2023.
New PS5, lighter, less power consuming and with external drive?
It is insider and well-known journalist Tom Henderson who reports these leaks, uncovered by TheLeak.co, but confirming information already disclosed by him. According to their sources, the PS5 with a new, lighter chassis will be offered in the third quarter of 2023. We are likely to announce new components that allow, among other things, to have a PS5 with a removable drive. TheLeak also claims that the overhaul of the machine will not be complete without a new chip, in order to reduce consumption and improve the cooling of the console.
New console and new accessory
According to Tom Henderson, it will be a thinner PS5 with a removable drive. Please note that an external drive will be sold separately for those who already have a PS5 without a drive, and that the console model will be offered with a removable USB-C drive. If we trust these leaks, Sony will be looking to offer its users more personalization: will they have a digital version of the PS5 and buy an external drive with it, or will they buy this new PS5 with chassis D (frames A, B and C are on sale now) .
Lightweight PS5… but not Slim!
But be careful not to talk about PS5 Slim! According to TheLeak and Tom Henderson, Sony has decided not to rebrand its console anytime soon, so it will be a new PS5 model rather than a PS5 Slim.
The Numbers I said that Sony is aiming for 30 million devices in fiscal year 23 (confirmed in a recent earnings report).
18.5 million of those consoles in FY23 will be this new version, and the old console will be fully retired by the end of FY23. https://t.co/KG7nCGzqiE

TheLeak.co leak suggests the PS5 Slim will be released in the third quarter of 2023.
I’m pretty sure it’s the PlayStation 5 I was talking about earlier, given that the production and release times line up perfectly with the production and sales data I have.
The numbers I have say that Sony will be aiming for 30 million units in fiscal 2023 (confirmed in a recent earnings report).
18.5 million of those Fiscal 2023 consoles will be this new version, while the old model will completely disappear at the end of Fiscal 2023.
We’ve already told you about Microsoft, which has patented an external drive designed specifically for Xbox Series S users. So it seems that Sony also wants to let its 100% digital console gamers play physical games through the accessory. .

Obviously, like all leaks, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. If Tom Henderson has already proved his trustworthiness several times, then TheLeak website (which generally confirms the journalist’s information) is much less known. We will have to wait until 2023 to find out if Sony is really going to release a fourth model already!
