This is strange. A PlayStation 2022 showcase seems imminent this month, but Sony hasn’t even said a word about the event.
Why is it inevitable? Well, there’s a lot of good stuff coming to Playstation 5 - some sooner rather than later, like GOD OF WAR Ragnarök, and another big September event (like last year) would be the perfect time to host an hour-long stream about it.
So, of course, don’t accept that something is happening until Sony says otherwise. But let’s get the crystal ball out and make some predictions about what could happen at the PlayStation Showcase this year.
Obvious Predictions

So, what is almost certain to appear at the PlayStation Showcase? I won’t count them on my betting list because it would really take away my enjoyment of writing such an article.
- Gameplay of God of War Ragnarok: Game Informer is already showing gameplay, so of course we’ll see some kind of extended gameplay trailer.
- PSVR 2 Sequel: Whether it’s Horizon or Resident Evil Village, expect to see some extra gameplay and some details on the headset before its 2023 release.
- New games on PSPlus: Games for September have already been announced (including all Sly Cooper games for Premium), but Sony will no doubt take this opportunity to let you know what else Premium subscribers can get.
Now that they’re out of the way, let’s think big and have a little fun with more outlandish hopes and predictions.
Prediction 1: Spider-Man 2 gameplay
Spider-Man 2 is slated to launch in 2023, and if we look at what happened in terms of the original Spider-Man on PS4, now is a good time for a gameplay preview.
But what will we see? Of course, it’s going to be Hollywood-level chaos and combat with the smooth control that Insomniac absolutely nailed for Spider-Man. However, the twist here, as mentioned in last year’s trailer, is co-op multiplayer, with one person playing as Peter Parker and another as Miles Morales.
I’m talking about finishing combos, humorous dialogue between them, and strategies to send one Spider-Man out to take out multiple snipers while another takes out opponents in close combat. A big bet to sweeten that up would be the announcement that you can play co-op throughout the story.
Prediction 2: PlayStation Cloud Gaming
I’ve already explained in detail that it’s time for Sony to announce PlayStation Cloud Gaming as part of PlayStation Plus Premium because everything is coming together.
With Backbone One PlayStation Edition and Xbox Cloud Gaming so far ahead, it’s now or never for a true competitor to give you greater cloud access to your PS Plus library through more dedicated apps and any web browser.
But here’s a sweetener that would be more of a hope than a hard prediction, because I doubt the company will: Sony cracks the DRM code and makes all the games you’ve purchased (online or on disc) available to play in the cloud.
Remote play is great, but in times of inflation, we just can’t afford to keep the PS5 on all the time to access games, so ditching it would be a huge consumer-facing decision.
Prediction 3: The Last of Us Multiplayer Trailer
Since The Last of Us Part I is in the books, it’s time to turn our attention to the multiplayer project, and while we saw some exciting concept art at Gamescom 2022, now’s the time for the trailer.
I don’t think we’ll see gameplay until at least next summer. However, this is kind of an advertisement to set the location, the variety of PVE and PVP combat on offer, and the Battle Royale features framing these huge battlefields where you have only one mission: to stand and survive.
Prediction 4: Miles Morales’ Spider-Man on PC will get a Christmas release date
Spider-Man on PC and Steam Deck is absolutely amazing, but what about Miles Morales? We already know this is coming, so it’s time to release the trailer and announce the game’s imminent launch in December.
Considering Miles Morales is set in a winter New York festooned with holiday decorations, this is the most obvious move to please PC gamers.
Going into specifics, I think the smart money is Friday, December 9th, but time will tell and I’ll be bragging about it on Okibata’s Twitter as I understand it.
Prediction 5: We have an idea of what Supernatural Studios is working on
One of my biggest highlights here at Okibat continues to be the exclusive scoop I got from SSX’s creative mind by making a new snowboarding game called Project Gravity.
Shortly after this article, the Supernatural Studios team officially partnered with a “major global publisher” and went into stealth mode, meaning no details have been released since.
It’s more of a divination that requires me to make a wish on a monkey’s paw by tossing salt over my shoulder and crossing my fingers. But maybe even a short teaser will be enough to satisfy my appetite.

This list should have ended with five predictions, but some breaking news captured my imagination. Gamesradar reported two things: Konami is introducing a new game in the “world famous series” at the Tokyo Game Show and, more interestingly, a growing number of reports of a remastering of the Metal Gear Solid trilogy.
Despite the wide availability of the platform, MGS has always felt like a PlayStation organization due to its history with the platform, at least to me (but feel free to disagree). So while Konami will enjoy their newest game in any series (my prediction: a new SIlent Hill), I think the PlayStation Showcase could be a great way to present this trilogy with a fresh coat of paint.
And who knows, maybe this will set the stage for a Metal Gear Solid 4 remake. Please, Konami, give me what I want.
