Microsoft to raise prices for its video games in 2023 -

Microsoft plans to raise the price of video games produced by its studios to $70 next year. As a result, flagship games like Redfall and Starfield will face 15 percent inflation. “This price reflects the content, scale and technical complexity of these games,” a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN. He added that all games developed by the Xbox teams will also be available on Game Pass. Based on rates charged in Europe, where hits are currently €69.99, the following major Xbox titles should cost €79.99.

Over the past couple of years, other companies, such as Sony’s PlayStation division, have decided to raise the prices of their games to $70. Earlier this year, the Japanese giant had already raised the price of its PlayStation 5 console by 50 euros in some countries, including France. Microsoft hasn’t said if the same will happen to the Xbox in the near future.

In the meantime, Nintendo has hinted that it is also considering a price increase, and Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive has indicated that it will be applying a title-by-title increase.

For its part, Microsoft has promised to keep the prices of its games and Games Pass subscriptions over the holidays. “Consumers are now feeling more insecure than ever, and I want our support for video games to be something they find attractive,” Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s head of gaming, said in a statement. Street Journal in October.
