US subsidiary of Brazilian meat giant JBS falls victim to cyberattack

The American subsidiary of the Brazilian group JBS, the main multinational in the agri-food industry which represents about a quarter of the world beef market, was the victim of a computer attack, we learned in a press release.

Delays are to be expected

This security incident affected “certain servers supporting North American and Australian information systems”, which can cause delays in transactions between suppliers and customers of the group.

JBS claims to have taken “immediate measures” to suspend the infected systems and to have notified the appropriate authorities of the situation which does not appear to have affected “the backup servers”. External cybersecurity experts are currently helping the company restore systems as quickly as possible.

No data would have been stolen

At present, there is no indication that data belonging to customers, suppliers or employees has been stolen by cybercriminals, according to JBS. However, it does not provide any information on the nature of the attack.

JBS is one of the biggest food companies. It exports its beef, chicken and pork products around the world. This incident shows once again that no one is spared from cyber attacks, from multinationals to the smallest structures. Last March, it was the milk giant Lactalis that was targeted by hackers.
