A “stupid mistake” can be the cause of Callisto Protocol performance issues on PC.

The release of The Callisto Protocol did not go exactly as Striking Distance would have liked. If crashes and performance issues could interfere with console gamers’ sessions, it’s most pitiful in the opinion of Steam users for the PC version, which, according to Steam users, plunged the survival horror score into “rather negative” limbo.

The title benefits from high achievement for a studio of such modest size, but tends to be quite greedy in terms of processing power. That’s all players need to run “optimization!” such bans, but it turns out that the launch of The Callisto Protocol was particularly plagued by stuttering problems due to poor regular shader decompilation, which caused very strong but brief framerate drops at the shortest times.

Since an emergency fix was released this weekend, it seems that this rather serious problem is already out of date. Steam ratings are already on the rise and have now reached an average of 51%.

On Twitter, Striking Distance CEO and The Callisto Protocol (and Dead Space) director Glenn Schofield suggests and points out that the concern was due to a “stupid mistake” coming from “a person who would have rushed.” The “copy error” he points out in another tweet.

It’s launch day, it’s happening, unfortunately. This is Krafton’s first single-player console game, so we do everything ourselves, like we’re a startup. I apologize for that.

Some journalists who tested the PC version before release confirm that the stuttering problems were not as pronounced before the game’s release, and that a simple mistake could well ruin the game’s technical reputation, while ultimately making it look unfounded … and annoying.

However, not all issues have been resolved, but Striking Distance has stated that it intends to continue to actively support the game in the coming weeks, with content expected for Season Pass owners over the next 6 months.
