East Hills Teen Creates Program That Provides New Clothes for Charities to Donate

What started out as a Long Island teenager who had just cleaned her closet, has grown into a program that offers charities new clothing to donate to thousands of people.

Mia Sara from East Hills started MIA Exchange.

“It stands for Mission Improvement Apparel Exchange, and it connects overstocked charities and needy charities,” he tells News 12.

Before the pandemic happened, Mia says she cleaned her closet and gave away half of her clothes.

She says it got her thinking about how people would feel about getting new clothes with labels from a charity.

“I asked my mom, ‘Do you think someone gives away new clothes,’ and she said, ‘I’ve never heard of that before because you usually just give away all your old things,’” Mia recalls of the conversation she had with her mother.

“I said, ‘We should do that, it would probably be really cool, if someone goes to a charity and gets something with a label knowing it’s theirs.’

Once the pandemic hit, venues were only accepting new items. It gave you the opportunity to do this.

He reached out to companies like Kelly Trading, Mango Apparel, and others to make massive donations. Mia says that with your help, they have donated more than 10,000 pounds of clothing and footwear.
