Since Tuesday, November 29, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron have been on an official visit to the United States. After Washington and the summit with Joe and Jill Biden, the presidential couple headed to New Orleans, where the head of state met with Elon Musk for a stunning summit.
This is a real love story that happened this week on the side of Washington. The second time, entering the Elysee Palace, Emmanuel Macron really began an official visit to the United States. After Donald Trump in 2017 and their historic handshake/testosterone contest, this time it was Joe Biden who greeted the President of the Republic and his wife, Brigitte Macron.
The couple also offered themselves a brief foray into a restaurant immortalized by the US president on Twitter and profusely ridiculed by netizens, between the head of state’s astonishing expression and the age difference between the two couples. That hasn’t stopped the two first ladies from having a good time together and being quite complicit, especially when it comes to jokes about Brigitte Macron’s level of English.
“Twitter needs to make an effort”
After Washington, the Macrons headed to New Orleans, the historic capital of Louisiana and the Francophonie in the United States. After Joe Biden, the President of the Republic met with another major figure in American news: businessman Elon Musk. The sulphurous Tesla boss has continued to cause controversy since the takeover of Twitter, between laying off thousands of employees, reinstating Donald Trump on the social network, or changes made to freedom of expression.
“I’m talking about it here on Twitter because that’s what it’s all about. I met with Elon Musk this afternoon and we had a clear and frank conversation. Transparent terms of service, a significant increase in content moderation and protection of freedom of expression: Twitter must make an effort to comply with European rules,” the president wrote in his account. The two men also discussed “future green industrial projects” while Elon Musk is at the forefront of electric vehicle technology. Did they also discuss the businessman’s future political ambitions…?
