Israel / Coronavirus: “Fourth dose of vaccine could be given as early as next month” (Senior Health Officer) – I24NEWS

A senior official in the Israeli health ministry said a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine could be administered next month in the country.

“We have preliminary data that is not yet clear on how long the reinforcement will last and there is uncertainty about the new variant,” he said.

“I estimate that we will need a fourth vaccine. We will make a decision on this soon,” adding that it takes “at least 5 months between doses.”

“It is possible that the fourth dose will arrive in January or February. If the Omicron disease is milder than that of the Delta strain, the fourth dose will only be offered to adults,” he said.

The senior official’s remarks come just two weeks after Health Ministry Director General Professor Nachman Ash said he was hopeful that the fourth vaccine would not be given until about a year or more after the third.

So far, more than 4.1 million people have received the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Separately, 55 cases of Omicron have been reported in the country after Israel closed its borders to foreigners for two weeks and subjected travelers to very strict restrictions.
