The United Motor Corporation has successfully completed the first stage of testing the PD-8 gas generator for the new generation Sukhoi SuperJet (SSJ). Technicians ODK-Saturn (Rybinsk) tested its start-up and operation with the supply of kerosene. A life-size sample of the gas generator will be presented at the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021.

PD-8 is the newest Rostec aircraft engine developed for short-haul aircraft. The gas generator was assembled and installed at the test bench in May. At the first stage of testing, the tests confirmed the correctness of the design solutions. The PD-8 engine is being developed jointly by UEC companies for a new and improved version of the Sukhoi SuperJet (SSJ), “which will be widely used for import substitution,” UEC reports. The PD-8 design uses technologies that were previously tested in the creation of the PD-14 engine for medium-range aircraft.

Currently, the SSJ-100 is powered by SaM146 turbojet engines developed by UEC-Saturn in cooperation with the French company Snecma (now Safran) in the first half of the 2000s.
