Elon Musk’s company Neuralink hopes to implant a computer in the human brain within 6 months
The startup is awaiting implant approval but is already working on a paralysis treatment.
Elon Musk said during a live presentation that one of his companies will be able to implant a device in the human brain within 6 months that allows him to communicate with a computer. According to him, the interface created by Neuralink will allow the user to communicate directly with the computer through thought.
“I think we’ve submitted most of our paperwork to the FDA, and we think we’ll probably be able to get our first human Neuralink in about six months,” Elon Musk said.
“We’ve been working hard to be ready for our first human (implant) and obviously we want to be very careful and make sure it works well before we put the device in a human,” he added.
The first two applications for humans will be to restore vision and help people with little or no muscle ability to quickly use digital devices, Musk said.
He said he also suggests that in a person with a broken neck, signals from the brain could be connected to Neuralink devices in the spinal cord.
“We believe there are no physical limits to the functionality of the whole body,” Musk said.
Dr. Jamie Henderson, professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University and adviser to Neuralink, said Neuralink stands out from other devices for its ability to reach the deepest layers of the brain. But he added: “There are many different systems that have many different benefits. »
