“The job of a supervisor is very difficult”
The guard recalls daily life under pressure and lack of support from his superiors: “The job of a guard is very difficult. I sent two letters asking for a change of unit, but I have a very bad relationship with my hierarch, due to one who took up his post in 2016 in the Val de Rei prison. Today I lost my job and am in pre-trial detention. The gaze of the guards is hard to bear.” Me Jeremy Calfon’s lawyer recalls that the prison is “a world of power struggle” where “prisoners are constantly being tested.”
“Especially serious facts”
More action will be needed from the public ministry, which regrets that the defendant “downplays particularly serious facts.” “This is a huge risk to which you expose the detainees. There are normative and ethical errors in this case,” Judge Anouk Ansel reminds him.
The guard faced up to 10 years in prison. Despite the regrets expressed by the defendant and the desire to retrain as a truck driver, the court sentenced him to three years in prison, two of which are strict, with an indefinite ban on practicing the profession of a prison guard.
